The world’s gone concrete mad…and this time its tilt up concrete slabs.

Chances are you may have seen it driving past a construction site shouting to the kids in the back, “look, a great big crane” and that great big crane is lifting a concrete slab high into the air.

So what are the benefits and method to tilt up construction?

Well, it’s fast becoming the method of choice for commercial builders with flexible finishes, financial gain and very robust. The theory is simple however labour intensive, but well worth the hard slog with the end result flawless, even by concrete standards.

First you start off with forming and pouring walls in sections while they are flat on the ground and then standing them up with a crane.

Making walls this way saves a great deal of money because it does away with the need for one of the most expensive and time consuming parts of any project; vertical concrete pours.

Once you get the hang of how to make concrete tilt up walls, you’ll be amazed at the speed at which you can create the panels.

Speaking from experience J&B Projects have just come off a tilt build in Burleigh, Gold Coast.  They created an old “off form” look, by no means inexpensive or an easy job however the client was hugely happy with the style achieved; a rustic look with a natural concrete colour and coated with a clear protective coating.

On going maintenance

• Extreme durability and are even safe for use in earthquake prone areas.

• Fire resistant since concrete meets building standards in even the most demanding codes.

• Ease of maintenance since concrete cannot be infested with insects or rodents. • Greater security benefits to the property from using strengthened concrete.

• Periodic cleaning and repainting are lower than traditional buildings.

• Lower operating costs. The thickness of the panels provide great insulation to the building.
